BIOGRAPHY

Since 2000 I'm based in Amsterdam, a city that fascinates me with its multi culturalenvironment. It already had been my weekend destination during several years while still living in Germany. That's how I got some good friends in Amsterdam and started to learn the language.

I was born and raised in a quiet, somewhat boring small town in the German countryside. Its slow pace was its only attraction. Why should we always rush? I consider depth, quality and a human touch more important in life than speedy, glamorous superficiality which does not mean that I won't go for the best.

In 1984 I started my photography training and education. This included a classical training in a photo studio, combined with a university course in design and photography.

Technical skills are important to any photographer. But I do not allow technique to get into the foreground. More important is the ability to observe and getting the right feeling of the people. This makes all the difference for a portrait photographer.

In this sense I never consider a model a neutral object. On the contrary, there has to be a two way communication, leading to a comfortable photo session, exchange of ideas and the model's recognition of being well represented through my work.
